The Creative Mobile Destinations Lab (CMDL) is an initiative founded by the Digital Tourism Think Tank. The Lab launched in 2014. The Lab’s mission is to generate and disseminate knowledge about best practices when it comes to mobile and tourism destinations.

The Lab is led by the SE1 Media Team and supported by leading industry experts and thought leaders. With a strong background in cutting edge research in tourism, especially when it comes to digital and destinations, the core research team  based in Ashford is working together with Mobile Lab members on content and year round discussions.

This year we are working on a number of exciting projects. Starting off with the “Going Mobile in 5 Weeks” blog series, published on the Digital Tourism Think Tank, a set of priorities have been identified after the first virtual round table meeting of the members of the Creative Mobile Destinations Lab.

Creative Mobile Destinations Lab Blog

What started of as a blog post series entitled “Going Mobile in 5 Weeks” has now developed into an open innovation and collaboration platform for tourist destinations around the globe. Soon we will invite key destinations to contribute to the blog, by sharing their opinion about one specific innovative or issue that is important to the destination landscape. Our blog is all learning from each other through sharing  best practice and experiences. We try to help driving innovation in mobile in the tourism industry, by creating this exciting collaborative platform for open knowledge exchange. We invite destinations to join us and get the best from discussing challenges, issues and solutions with their peers and the industry experts .

Virtual Round Table Meetings

Knowledge exchange for innovation is all about building communities. The Creative Mobile Destinations Lab meet 4 times a year for a  collaborative virtual round table meetings. Meetings will be themed around a specific innovative or important topic concerning the key challenges that destinations face when it comes to mobile. Each meeting will have a moderator (key presenter) or an external expert which will guide the discussion.

Digital Natives and Mobile Technologies Walkshop

That’s right, Walkshops! This is not a spelling mistake. We are organising our first Walkshop during the Summer Talent Camp organised in collaboration with WYSE Travel. The members of the Creative Mobile Destinations Lab are invited to take part and join the students in order to observe how digital natives work with mobile products on-site. The Walkshop will finish with a collaborative focus group session where destinations will have the oppotunity to inquire about mobile experiences and obtain invaluable feedback regarding optimisation of their mobile presence.

Mobile Destinations Annual Survey

A central initiative for the Creative Mobile Destinations Lab this year will be the design, administration, analysis and release of an Annual Mobile Destinations Survey, which will aim to investigate status quo, challenges and issues that destinations face when it comes to mobile.  The results will be presented in the Annual Creative Mobile Destinations Lab Survey Report which will be made available for free to the members of the Creative Mobile Destinations Lab. The results will be discussed in detail during the Annual Meeting of the Creative Mobile Destionations Lab members.

Joining the Creative Mobile Destinations Lab is free. You can join at any time, as long as you are willing to contribute with your knowledge and experience to the key activities of the Mobile Lab (see Agenda).
